Everett is a city located in the U.S. state of Washington. Situated 40 km north of the city of Seattle, this city of 103,019 individuals serves as the county seat of Snohomish County. The city of Everett is the fourth largest city within the state of Washington and 4th largest in the Puget Sound region, and has the largest public marina on the U.S. west coast. It is situated at the mouth of the Snohomish River on Possession Sound. Everett is named after the son of founder Charles L. Colby.
Located within Everett is an assembly plant for Boeing. This plant is the biggest structure in the globe by total volume as the Boeing 747, 767, 787 and 777 airplanes are assembled here. Everett received an All-America City Award during the year 2002. The western segment of U.S. Route 2 terminates here.
The Port of Everett can be found along the city's waterfront, along with the Naval Station Everett, the Kimberly-Clark paper mill, and the Everett Yacht Club. The marina at the Port of Everett could handle more than 2000 ships. The Port serves as deep-water commercial seaport, receiving nearly 200,000 short tons of cargo on an annual basis. During a recent redevelopment, the Port Gardner Wharf was constructed and the northern part of waterfront was developed with retail shops, maritime companies and condominiums.
The waterfront is a major area for the cities events and activities such as the Everett Farmer's Market, held every Sunday, and the Waterfront Concert Series, held every Thursday night. Public events comprise the Everett Coho Derby, held during the month of September at Tenth Street Park, and the Fresh Paint Festival of Artists, held during August on the marina promenade. Each and every summertime, Jetty Island Days are celebrated on Jetty Island
The man-made Jetty Island is owned by the Port of Everett. It is a narrow, 3.2 km long island with strong winds and wide flat sandy beaches, making it a very popular place for kite-surfing and skimboarding. Jetty Island was built during the early part of the 1900's by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, although it was initially a failed attempt to create a freshwater harbor. The island presently serves as a park, accessible by ferry. Starting from the month of June through the Labor Day holiday weekend, Everett provides free ferry service from the 10th Street Boat launch to Jetty Island.
