Inspecting your Fork Truck for Safety
Like any industrial machine, the fork truck should be utilized with some care. Though, unlike a car, steering is done on the rear wheel giving the machine a different center of balance. Anyone operating a fork truck and everyone working within the vicinity of this machine needs to know workplace safety guidelines and safe operating measures.
Safe operation of a fork truck initially involves checking the truck before using it. Operators should inspect for potential dangers like worn tires and fuel leaks. The lifts, forks and the overhead guard should be thoroughly checked. The safety handle must be used only when the forklift is being mounted.
The horns, alarms and lights should be checked to ensure that they are operating properly. Monitors and gauges must be adjusted properly. The seat should be adjusted and safety belt fastened prior to starting the truck.
To prevent tipping the equipment, always choose the low rate speed when driving and take turns cautiously. If the load blocks the driver's vision, the truck should be driven in reverse gear. Always be alert of the location of any obstacles and pedestrians when driving.
The driver should always sit inside the cage enclosure and keep all body parts inside the vehicle to prevent any possibility of injury. The forks must be kept several inches above the ground while driving. Never raise or lower lifts while you are driving or the truck might become unstable. Do not allow anyone to walk under lift when the engines are running.

Operator Environment

The controller's seat and the hydraulic controls are all independently adjustable in order to maintain an optimum working position. Furthermore, the steering wheel and related panel is adjustable for maximum comfort. There are 2 simple to operate, multi-functioned ergonomically positioned levers which are provided for the window washers, horn, windscreen wipers and gear changing.
A ventilation/heating unit guarantees a comfortable cab temperature for the operator. The incoming air is replaced by an air filter. This is easily replaceable and the unit slides out afterwards to make serviceability an easy option. The machine has a robust 3-speed fan for defrosting, recirculation, cooling and heating. As an extra option, air conditioning can be fitted.
Instrumentation
In the Spirit Delta, the instrument panel has logically grouped units that are all within easy reach. Standard instrumentation consists of: high coolant temperature, low brake pressure, low engine and gearbox lubrication oil pressure, warning lamps, high gearbox oil temperature and applied parking brake. Furthermore, gauges display values for fuel quantity, operating time, gearbox oil pressure and engine coolant.
The ECS or also called Electronic Control System monitoring is one of the main options on the 8 to 10 tonne trucks. These units make it easier to supervise the machine.
