It is important to visually inspect the pallet truck prior to loading any supplies and to make certain the handles move effortlessly, the pallet lift turns properly, and the lift is free of any would-be obstructions. Move forward gradually while slightly raising the prongs 2-3 inches above the ground by applying the "up" lever. Slide the forks into the slots of the hopper until they cannot slide in any further. Fill the hopper up with whatever item or materials that is to be disposed of. Use the "up" lever and raise the dump bucket until it is above eye level in order to ensure visibility. Move forward until reaching the trash dumpster and afterward lift the hopper until it clears the bin by one or two feet and progress frontward until the lift truck is touching the outside of the dumpster.
Self dumping hoppers would automatically dump on contact with the dumpster. Traditional dump bucket or hoppers need the use of the tilt lever so as to incline the prongs down until they reach a 45 degree angle. When the inside dump out, return the prongs to the flat position. Lower the prongs back to floor level before returning to the facility.
